Welcome my pretties to the annual Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop. This year I’ve gone completely batty, with a playful purple Halloween table, centerpiece and decorated chandelier overhead!
Hosted by my blogger buddy Rita of Panoply, 19 table stylists have conjured up lots of fun to frightening settings to inspire and delight. See links to each at the end of this post.
Because I already have two sets of Halloween plates, I’m loath to purchase and then find space to store new tableware. What to do?
Last year’s Gothic Glam Table & Skeleton Napkin Fold is one of my all-time favorite tablescapes — regardless of holiday, season or occasion. For that elegant setting, I didn’t use any Halloween tableware. Instead, I pulled out my best china, crystal and sterling. A Silly Skeleton — resplendent in pearls and rhinestones — sat in my ornate silver punchbowl, right in the middle of the table!
How do I top that?
Let’s see, I’ve already done a witch, ghost, mummy, and two skeleton tables. Hmmm! In the end, a bat-shape napkin fold provided the spark I needed to style this year’s Halloween scene.

Bats Buzz in Belfry
If you’re flying in from my talented friend Sarah’s and her charming dog theme table, there’s nothing to fear or be afraid of here!
Don’t worry about all the bats populating my purple Halloween table, centerpiece, or chandelier. They aren’t blood-sucking vampire bats and don’t bite —much!
The quick and easiest way to add a purple punch of color, was to cover the glass kitchen table with an inexpensive plastic tablecloth (Dollar Tree). Unfortunately, they didn’t have any rounds in stock, so I just folded the large rectangle size in half. On top is a lacy, black spider topper. Can you tell the purple underneath is plastic? Go ahead I dare you lol!
Next, I pulled out chargers with black and white, wide stripes (Hobby Lobby). To tie in with the bat theme, I surrounded each charger with a feathery boa (Dollar Tree). Although I considered using black, I liked how the violet shade provided another pop of color to the purple Halloween table.
This Way Something Wicked Wiccan Comes
To keep flyaways from getting into food, I carefully tucked errant feathers under the charger edges.
Layered in the plate stack are Wiccan Lace pattern by 222 Fifth Halloween dinner, salad and dessert dishes.
Either a skeleton, cat, witch, or haunted house are depicted on each of the smaller plates — mostly hidden under the bat-shape napkins.

A few years latter, the plates also appeared on the Spooktacular Skeleton at the Feast Halloween Table. I debated then if I should splurge and order four more dinner plates — so I could host larger seasonal gatherings.
This Halloween, however, my puppy made the decision for me.
Scary Scottie
As I was folding napkins for the purple Halloween table, I heard a loud clang and crash coming from the kitchen. Uh-ho! A split second latter, Whiskey (my 10-month old Scottish Terrier puppy) came running at me in a fright!
He was fine, but one of the dinner plates was not.
Laying on the floor was an intact metal charger, but the plate was in pieces. Fortunately, I hadn’t gotten to putting out the smaller plates or painted glasses yet. Whew! It could have been a lot worse. Still.
Apparently, the purple feathers had caught Whiskey’s eye. He must have jumped up and pulled on the topper, which hangs six-inches over the edge of the table. With just four-inch long legs, I had once again underestimated his field of vision and athletic abilities. Not buying his innocent look or claim it was the work of poltergeists either!
You’d think I had learned my lesson when something similar happened with the St. Patrick’s Day Table. Nothing broke then, just shifted. Since then, I’d switched from using tablecloths to placemats.
In my defense, his predecessor Fibber MacGee, never once showed the least bit of interest in any of my table settings.
Well, I couldn’t possibly get by with only three dinner plates! At $20 each, I ordered three from Replacements. Now, I have enough to set a dinner in the dining room for six.
But, until Halloween night this year, I’ve flipped up the four edges of the purple cloth and lacy topper onto the table top.
Bats Take Flight
Far out of Whiskey’s reach is the bat-decorated chandelier hanging over the table. Although simple to create, it was challenging to photograph without background visual “noise” and window glare.
So here is is from underneath. I’m especially pleased with the feathery bats suspended over the centerpiece. I made each bat by joining two black feathers with a section of metallic silver pipe cleaner.

My most over-the-top creation was the Jaw Dropping Halloween Chandelier. It featured a three-foot skeleton literally swinging from the light fixture above the Spooktacular Skeleton at the Feast Halloween Table.
Marbled Purple Pumpkin Patch
Beneath the flying bats in the chandelier, the centerpiece features marbled faux pumpkins (Hobby Lobby).

Perched on each pumpkin stem is a glittery black bat (Dollar Tree) to tie into the table theme.
In the center of the vignette is a black metal, bat silhouette candle holder. Elevating the candle and pumpkins are two different sizes of black spider cupcake holders.
Surrounding the centerpiece is a ring of purple deco mesh and tubing (Dollar Tree). Providing a little spectral glow is a string of mini lights.
Tucked in here and there are small purple ornament balls (Michaels), and more feathery bats like those flying above.
Spread Your Bat Wings
Back to the place settings and plate stack topped with a bat-shape napkin.
It’s the 19th fold I’ve tried over the last several years! The bat-shaped napkin is what helped inspire and unify my Halloween table theme.

For Halloween, there’s a bone-shape fold on the Skeleton at the Feast Table, or Skeleton Mummy Napkin Fold to choose from.
Folding fabric napkins elevates a table setting. And, it means you don’t necessarily need holiday or seasonal specific tableware or linens to carry off a theme.
Searching online, I found two different styles to fold a napkin into the shape of a bat. Both are easy, although the one I chose requires an additional step. I thought it looked the most realistic. What do you think?

Position at the top of each setting is a place card depicting a bat. I love carrying theme details throughout a tablescape!
Flanking the plate stack and napkin fold are black-handle flatware (Dollar Tree). They are a real treat at only $1 for a three-piece service of four.
Eventually, I will invest in a quality service for eight, But, not until I find a pattern that makes me swoon or is a steal!
If You Got It, Haunt It
Although I already had smoky black wine glasses (Dollar Tree), I decided to Halloweenize them with haunting imagery.
To tie-in with the bat and purple Halloween table, I hand painted four glasses with my own design — a trio of bats flying in front of a purple, moonlit sky.

Adjacent to each painted glass is a vintage goblet (local resale shop) in a plum shade.
I have six glasses, but this is the first time I’ve ever used them. They were a nice find, but until setting this purple Halloween table, I never had any other tableware they went with.

I was hard pressed to now spend $25/each (with shipping) for those dinner plates, when originally finding them at HG and Marshall’s for $4! Call me cheap lol! Thanks for making me giggle Ann and for so graciously bestowing the title last year! But, I’m running out of new folds to try lol! Painting the glasses helped me to stick with the bat theme without purchasing new stemware. Wherever to store ’em though? At least they weren’t victim to Whiskey’s wicked ways!
Whiskey is a typical terrier: naughty! I have two naughty Westies, and one of them would’ve been curious about the feather runner, too!
I love the feathers on the table. The lights, feathers, and painted pumpkins lend a sort of eerie, foggy atmosphere. The napkin folds are genius, and I love how you painted the glasses. :D
Whiskey prefers “spunky” or “feisty” lol! His latest antic is to hurl himself onto my lap while I’m sitting on the couch. It’s like getting hit by a 20 pound, fury bowling ball! Gotta love our Highland Terriers right?

The chandy was super quick and easy — I just had to run back to DT for 2 more purple boas! The bat fold isn’t hard (just iron as you go). Yes, looks like I’m going to have to keep to place mats on the kitchen table for the time being! He’s such a little scamp! It’s the first time I ever incorporated purple into any table, and was easy/inexpensive with the DT cloth and boas. But then, I just couldn’t help myself from carry purple and the bats into the glasses and pumpkins. Do try marbleizing! Fair warning though Pam, it’s addicting! Sandra, so kind of you to say! Originally, I was going to cutout simple construction paper or felt bats (I couldn’t find my premade ones either lol). Then, I spotted that package of black feathers! They couldn’t be more simple to make.
Don’t feel sorry for Whiskey, he’s one very spoiled, spunky, scamp of a Scottie! Right now he’s all cuteness and innocence, sleeping curled up next to me on the couch.
You!!! You!!! Look at what you’ve done here! My goodness, Debbee! You really went all out! The bat napkins gave me the chills right “off the bat.” (See what I did there?😉) There has been an influx of those things in our neighborhood this fall, and when I walk at night I am CONSTANTLY creeped out! I’m SO afraid of them! You make a much friendlier version for the table that I can get into! Really clever folding technique! You say it’s your 19th fold over the years? Play that number in the lotto…it will be a winner for you! You did a REALLY great job with your marbled pumpkins! Who’d have thought nail polish could do such wild and wonderful tricks!? Alycia, you are oh-so-funny and clever with those bat puns lol! And, I don’t like real bats either! Eek! I like your lucky number idea. At 19 different folds, I may be running out of new ones to try. Like dishes, I have found that marbleizing pumpkins is addictive! Lots of fun experimenting, and it’s so fast and easy to do. After being non-weight bearing and stuck at home last Oct-Jan, it was great fun shopping for supplies and crafting again. Can’t wait to actually have dinner guests for Halloween!

WOW – You have so many wonderful details here that I must go back and scroll thru this post again! I LOVE the napkin fold and the marbled pumpkins are adorable (I used to marbleize paper and fabric, so they really caught my eye). The purple is a great color for halloween! The dishes are perfect and your chandelier is fabulous! I have never seen the silverware at Dollar Tree and will have to check that out! Going back for a second look!
Patti, so delighted you enjoyed all the “eye candy” I tried to incorporate into the setting. The bat fold is pretty easy to do as long as you press the folds with an iron as you go. Bet your marbled paper and fabric are fabulous, something I need to check out. Is it as addicting as marbleizing pumpkins? I’m on a second set in a different color scheme. I added the Wiccan plates to my stash several years ago. I had two different styles that I mixed together, but I’m sad to say I never really styled a table with them. I sent them all home with dish loving niece this past summer. She was visiting yesterday and reported that she is using them for their meals this month. I was thrilled to know they are being enjoyed. They caught my eye with their black and white theme and lacy details.

Whiskey is fine and dandy. We are heading to see both our sons with him along for the ride. If he’s anything like Fibber was, he’s gonna love exploring our eldest’s rooftop, wrap-around terrace in NYC. Whiskey already loves to visit younger son’s Philly row house, mostly because his lab buddy Bentley lives there. Hopefully, we’ll all enjoy walks in Central and Fairmont Parks together too.
Debbee, I’m not sure why I never styled a table. I was so smitten with those plates and thrilled to find them. I’m thrilled they are being used and enjoyed. They would look great with the Courtly Check. Perhaps one year I’ll borrow them and style a table. I know where they are! 😂😂😂

Yep, I’m back to using placemats on the kitchen table for the time being. Ironically, Whiskey and I are about to start 6 weeks of advanced training; working towards Canine Good Citizen lol! Come winter, I’ll need to get him in an agility class (my vet wanted to wait until he’s a year old). Other than those vintage goblets, I don’t have any purple tableware or linens. I do like the moody look of combining purple with black. It was fun styling something different using the same Wiccan plates.
These details are ALL so awesome, Debbee. I think you outdid yourself (insert bat, er, I mean pat on the back!). It’s a good thing Whiskey’s got the innocent look down pat, lol. Glad you found the replacements. All those Dollar Tree bargains make up for the replacement $ spent. 😉 The bat napkin fold is super, looks real. The use of purple with black is mystical, magical. Rita, you are too funny! Between the bat remark and our back and forth about witches recently, you’ve given me the giggles. Whiskey is upping his game on tugging at heartstrings lately, whenever he wants something or knows he’s been naughty — pawing my leg ever so gently, jumping up on the couch to snuggle or bury his nose under my arm, or laying down the floor with those puppy eyes. Or, he breaks tension by doing something silly or funny that makes me laugh out loud. Gosh, it’s good to have a Scottie again! I’m just gotta have to revert back to place mats for awhile.
Recently, I’ve found trips to DT can inspire ideas, so long as you visit right after they’ve put out the next season or holiday goods. They sure run out fast (especially lately). And since I’m giving the pumpkins away, nothing I bought will cause storage problems. Thanks ever so much for taking on the huge job of hosting my dear. Hope you know how much I appreciate it.
Hello Debbee, This tablescape is adorable in every way…love having a theme for a holiday table and bats fit the bill so well, especially when adding the bat shaped napkins. The overall effect is frightful but yet quite glamorous as well.
Poor Whiskey! He must have been very frightened by the old crash! Not so fortunate for the plate but all is well that ends well since you were able to get a replacement. Whiskey is looking very dapper and not the least bit remorseful…such a handsome fellow! Cheers, Alayne
Alayne, always delighted to hear from you! Appreciate your kind remarks about the tablescape. One of the things I hadn’t anticipated while styling it was the fun texture the purple boas and feathers added.
Don’t fret about Whiskey! At the time of the crash, I was more worried he’d gotten hit on the head, or could get cut on a plate shard. So there wasn’t much scolding. He went straight into his crate on his own, while I cleaned up. Whiskey is the brindle coat with his head tilt. Fibber was bigger, had the black coat and is next to the pumpkin. Right now Whiskey is trying to put his head under my arm and lay his head on my keyboard as I type this — somebody wants a walk!
This is so pretty and festive Debbee! I remember the Skeleton Chandy and it’s pretty amazing. I’m sure Scottie feels bad and promises not to do it again :) If you hadn’t mentioned that the tablecloth was plastic I wouldn’t have known it. Using the feather boas under the chargers is an idea that I will try. I also want to learn how to marble the pumpkins, Maybe not for this Halloween but hopefully for Thanksgiving. Happy Halloween!

Debbee, I was so drawn into your stunning bat tablescape. You put so much work into your settings and the details are fabulous, including your decorated chandelier. I agree, I love the pop of bright purple. It really pops! All of your bats could be Ferdinand’s friends at The Little Yellow Corner Store! The painted stemware is so jolly and really adds to the hauntingly good fun. Your feather bats look so real. The marble pumpkins make a perfect statement and can easily be used in other tablescape themes. Such a playful Halloween tablescape. I think Whiskey must think so too. He must of loved it so much and wanted to be first at the table. (Sorry to hear about the added expense for replacement plates. The pattern from 222 Fifth Avenue is striking.) Happy Halloween
Well gee Marsha, thanks so much Marsha, very kind of you to say! It was fun to style with purple for the first time. Although, I may have gone a little overboard with the boas lol! Those easy peasy feather bats sure were a hit. To think they were just a last minute inspiration when I spotted the bag of feathers at Michaels. To keep Whiskey grounded (to the floor), I’ll be switching to place mats at least through Xmas. But, since the “accident” he seems to shy from even lying under the table or chairs. Must have given him a fright.

Debbee, this table is amazing!!! I’m loving those marbleized pumpkins and the purple boas! I don’t think I’ve ever seen boas at our Dollar Tree. The DIY bats hanging from the chandy are fabulous, too. Your hand painted wine glasses are so creative and perfect for this table. And that bat napkin fold is the bomb! I learned my lesson about curious dogs after Fergus, our Irish Wolfhound, stole a clementine off of my St. Patrick’s day tablescape. I now block off the dining room with a baby gate lol! I never would have guessed that the purple underlay was plastic, or that it wasn’t round! You have layered your table beautiful with so many fun and creative pieces. Debbee, I love the purple, black, and white theme on your table and the bat napkins are beyond fabulous! I’m so glad you were able to find the replacements for the Wiccan lace plates – they are just so versatile for Halloween! Whiskey is so cute (even if he was a bad boy) and I’m sure all has been forgiven lol. Love the painted wine glasses too, so clever. The chandy looks perfect! Debbee, I love all the napkin folds you create, but this bat is really cute!!! Love your whole post, and I’m sorry I didn’t realize that Whiskey had pulled down part of the tablecloth and broke a plate. I can imagine the feathers were really attractive! Are Schnauzers a bird dog breed? Our Golden sure was. He’d point out birds just totally naturally. Anyway, I’m glad he didn’t get hurt. :)
It’s a keeper fold for sure! One of these days, I need to post a tutorial because it is a bit tricky. Whiskey has a brindle coat and does look like a miniature Schnauzer, but he’s a Scottish Terrier. This year, he’s going to the local Halloween parade sporting bat wings lol.
