In honor of romance and Valentine’s Day, I’m sharing the Love Boat theme engagement party we co-hosted with Sistah B and her husband at their home in Charleston.
Both my eldest son and nephew are getting married this year, and everyone couldn’t be more thrilled and happy!
Since we were already gathering for a week over Thanksgiving, it seemed the perfect opportunity to celebrate. Not only does our mother live in Charleston, but so do both my niece and spouse, and nephew and his sweet fiancé. Plus, eldest niece and her daughter traveled from Seattle for the holiday, and Sister A flew in from Florida.
Hubby and I rented a house with our sons and fiancé V, within walking distance to Sistah B’s waterfront home. She and her husband actually live on Folly Beach, the last barrier island across the water from Charleston. It was a wonderful setting for a joint Love Boat theme engagement party!
So now that you have a general idea of who, what and where, let’s raise anchor and set sail to party (warning, rocky seas with numerous corny puns ahead lol)!
Today, I’m sharing the pair of wedding champagne flutes I made as a personalized gift for my niece’s recent party. It was a fun craft that could easily be applied to any hand painted glass project.
Since the happy occasion of my niece’s wedding in Charleston several weekends ago, I’ve been on a longer than planned blogging break. As in a Tale of Two Cities, it’s been both the best and worst of times.
After the wedding, I returned with my mom to Florida to help transfer dad from a rehab center to long term care. Mom and I knew the minute we saw him that something was wrong. Immediately after the transfer, it became clear his pain from a previous injury and fall had escalated significantly. Within hours, dad was back in the hospital with a severe sepsis infection.
Moving him to hospice care was a blessing. Several long days later, he passed peacefully, and I am very grateful his suffering has ended.
Creating this post is a happy distraction. It also provides an opportunity to remember the fun weekend, celebrated with family and friends. Here’s how I created the wedding champagne flutes and how to make your own.
Revisiting last year’s My Favorite Things Party, and sharing Tiffany theme party favors perfect for a birthday or bridal shower.
I recently realized, that I haven’t done a single post on the third party. Brunch at Debbie’swas based on the move, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and was simply mahvelous!
It was about a year ago — before I started blogging — that Susan featured the event on Between Naps on the Porch. The post, A Fabulous “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Brunch Event (and her reader’s positive response), is what led me to start Debbee’s Buzz last fall.
The weekend before Easter, I traveled to Philadelphia to attend a Love is Sweet bridal shower.
The shower was for L, my college bestie E’s daughter. L also attended our alma mater. She was a year behind my youngest son. The two of them played on a coed soccer team while in college, and got to know each other’s friends — one of whom is the groom.
I had originally offered to put together a smaller, more intimate shower. But, the difficulty of living out-of-town, and a guest list swelling to 75, made it unrealistic. Plus, the bridesmaids were excited to take on the shower’s creative elements and organization themselves. Others, including the groom’s mother, and E’s sisters and several friends, generously underwrote the lovely luncheon at an Italian restaurant.
So, I stepped back, organized the gift table display, and thoroughly enjoyed being a guest. I’m glad I did, because the girls did a bang up job! Take a look…
Thanks for buzzing by! I'd love to hear from you, please leave a comment.
