Welcome to my silly not scary Skeleton at the Feast Halloween table. The annual Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop is in full swing!
The weeklong spooktacular is hosted by Chloe of Celebrate & Decorate. Once again, twenty stylists have joined forces for the monthly tablescape event.
Rather than scary, my skeleton theme Halloween table is meant to be fun, not frightful.
I’ve tried to capture the nostalgia of Halloweens back when we and our kids were trick or treaters. A fearless time playing make-believe in the moonlight. How in the glow of grinning jack o lanterns, we’d run door-to-door with siblings and friends — gathering as much candy as we could. Then, coming home and dumping, sorting and counting our haul spread out on the floor.
So, come to the Halloween table my dearies, for a not-so-bone-chilling dinner party for four.

Swinging from the Light Fixture
Presiding over the Halloween table, is a skeleton seated in the Jaw Dropping Chandelier— bare bones and all!
Mr. Bones is having a grand ‘ol time swinging from the light fixture, with his feet dangling over the dinner party.
The silly numbskull was the inspiration, for a Skeleton at the Feast Halloween table.
Set a Spooky Scene
To set the table, I began with a black background, Halloween print tablecloth. It reminds me of the boys’ Halloween Costume Photos and Artwork when they were young.
Decorated with things that go bump in the night, including ghosts, bats, Frankenstein, mummies, and witches, there’s not one skeleton—eek! That’s okay, there’s a skeleton crew of tableware to come.
Instead of a charger, a haunted house-shape, foam placemat (Pier 1 clearance 2018) adds a little elevation to each setting — even if the dish stack hides the spooky silhouette.
You can see a trio of ghosts, however, floating around the top of each dinner plate. They provide a nice pop of white against the black tablecloth.
Scalloped-edge, black and white dinner plates (Wiccan Lace by 222 Fifth) anchor the stack. On top, are one of four coordinating dishes. Each top plate depicts a haunted house, black cat, witch riding a broom, or grinning skeleton skull.
Last year’s Eye of Newt, Spooky Halloween Tablescape, used the same dish pattern to create a bewitching atmosphere.
Trick or Treat
Perched on top of the plate stack is a black spider cupcake stand (find them here).
But, since I set the Halloween table over a week ago, Skeleton-topped cupcakes (Women’s Day recipe) will have to wait. Otherwise, getting on the scale could be scary, LOL!
In the meantime, I’ve already filled skeleton treat bags (order here) with popcorn; using candy corn for finger nails.
Years ago, I made similar favors for elementary class Halloween parties. An old-fashioned treat that was a huge hit with the kids. That was in the dark days before ideas and inspiration came from Pinterest, LOL!
Each skeleton hand stands upright thanks to a plastic black cauldron; weighted with candy corn filling. The cauldrons also support place cards with each guest’s Halloween alter ego.
In case you’re wondering, mine is Zelda the witch (see below). I’ve gotta lay off that zombie juice this time of year, LOL!
Another, but more adult favor, is a skull shot glass filled with more candy corn (available here).
Skeleton Crew Tableware
Flanking each dinner plate is black handle flatware (Dollar Tree). A real treat at $1 for a package of 12 pieces!
Adjacent to the fork, I placed a skull-topped cocktail pick (found here)
Glow-in-the-dark, ghost drink stirs hang on the rim of skeleton goblets (available here).
And, a pair of skeletal “forks” flank the centerpiece.
On Halloween, they’ll be used to toss and serve salad from a black cauldron on the nearby buffet.
Bad to the Bone?
Lately, I’ve been on a napkin-folding kick; whether it was a bird of paradise, Olympic torch, or apple. So for the skeleton theme, what would be more appropriate than a napkin folded to look like a bone?
Can you see it? Like a long thigh bone, right?
Large skeleton print napkins (William Sonoma a couple of years go), in white, contrast against the black tablecloth.
Basically, fold a large napkin in a triangle, roll tightly, and tie loose knots on each end. Just follow the bone-folding tutorial. It’s another quick and easy napkin fold added to my repertoire. See them all in, Napkin Folds for All Seasons, Holidays & Occasions.
Rattle Them Bones
Making his first appearance at the Buzz residence is this caged skeletal crow (order here).
He sits directly underneath the silly skeleton in the chandelier. Two skeleton candle tapers (local gift shop, 2018) flank the crow’s cage.
Since I don’t want their features to melt, I probably won’t burn the skeleton candles. Like the indian corn tapers in, Finally Fall Season Deco, they may be for display only.
Instead, I’ll relight two others, including this not-so-scary ghost. Elevating the round candle is another spider cupcake stand.
On the opposite side of the skeleton centerpiece, an orange glow illuminates a bat silhouette candle.
Nearby, sits a bottle of “Silent as the Grave.” Perhaps a little sip led to the caged skeleton’s demise?
Or, maybe it was this bottle — clearly marked poison?
A trio of mummies made the same deadly mistake last year in the Haunted Halloween Hallows Tablescape.

Marsha, thanks so very much! I particularly appreciate you recognizing the amount of “work’ it took to put together. Although, the napkin fold itself was so fast and easily done. Even the chandelier went together rather quickly, as I already had everything but the bone garland. Stuffing the fingers of the popcorn bag was a pain though — at least I didn’t have to put together several dozen as I did for the boys’ class parties, LOL.

A blast from my kids’ past! That silly skeleton is grinning at me right now from across the family room and whenever I’m preparing meals in the kitchen. Was excited to not only find that napkin tutorial, but to see how simple it was to do. I do worry I may have “peaked” on Halloween decorating and tables — can’t imagine what I can do to top it next year?
Out of your skull? Never. You do do your chandelier better than anyone. Two neighbors (don’t know them) stopped by to photograph your wreath.

Debbee, your scary table is amazing! The skeleton chandy is so creative. So many wonderful details. Your napkin folds are beginning to look like your signature. There does seem to be a bumper crop of skellie tables so far! But, each is unique and different, like your elegant scene. I was laying in bed one night when putting a skeleton in the chandy just popped into my head. Sometimes, when I’m planning a party or post, I just can’t turn my brain off, LOL! I don’t know about a signature Linda, but I certainly am on a napkin folding binge!

Thanks Pam, I had a lot of fun creating the scene. Most company table settings I do — even for just four — usually include a guest favor or two. Shouldn’t bee too hard to find a seat at a table for four, but I couldn’t resist the alter ego place cards, LOL!
Debbee, love the table and all the extra details. How many days does it take to put it all together? I had a good laugh. I thought it said “Silent in the grave” There are people who will say that about me ! LOL
Let’s see, about an hour to actually put together the chandy, and two to set the table. Although, that doesn’t count getting decorations out of the attic, and going through cabinets, drawers, etc. to pull out all the linens, tableware, etc. Didn’t spend time shopping because I already had everything but the candy corn and DT flatware. Of course, there’s all the countless hours I spend mulling over in my head what I’m actually going to do, LOL! Most time-consuming is publishing the post you see — photography and photo editing, and writing/crafting the actual post. On average a post takes me 8 hours over two or three days. A labor of love!
Oh my gosh Debbee! You really have styled an outstanding table! I don’t know where to start! Oh, yes I do…..Mr. Bones dropping in to the party through the chandelier is the best! Gee thanks Maureen! You should have seen my husband’s incredulous look when he came home from the gym to find me putting the skeleton into the chandy, LOL! Turned out he likes Mr. Bones in the fixture just fine (he’s use to me going crazy with party themes!). Extending myself over the glass table without his help, not so much! All the napkin folds I’ve used are easy peasy and quick to put together. Hope you give it a try.

My Queen of Theme (or scream queen?) affliction really goes a little over-the-top at Halloween, LOL! Glad you enjoyed it so much Katherine. The chandy is my favorite part too, because you can see it all the way from the kitchen through the family room, and from the entry hall to the back porch.

Wow Debbee, you really hit this out of the park! I love all of the attention to detail on this table. I had to look closely so I wouldn’t miss anything. The skeleton chandelier is so cool! The bone napkin fold looks just like out dogs rawhide bones! I recognized the poison bottle from last year’s tablescape…it looks right at home here as well. Great job! Hi Deb, You did it again. Great tablescape! I unfortunately ended up in PA at my dad’s bedside until he passed on Oct 25th so I never finished my table or my decorating this year. I did want to tell you that I saw some Wiccan Lace dinner plates on Ebay for 17.99 each and they have 12 available at this time. Just in case you are still wanting some more of them as you indicated a few months ago. Can’t wait to see your holiday table!
Oh Anna, I’m so very sorry about your dad. My father passed in early May, and although it was a blessing at that point, we continue to struggle with the loss. You have my deepest condolences.
Appreciate you taking the time to let me know about the plates — very sweet of you! I’ll have to check it out. I just got back from nearly two weeks in Philly (we missed Halloween at home) for my son’s surgery and at home care. So, my table and decorations came down before the holiday.
