Uncle Sam Wreath Peddles Bike to July 4th Parade

Uncle Sam Wreath Peddles Bike to July 4th Parade

Sharing a whimsical Uncle Sam wreath, in honor of our nation’s upcoming birthday.

In May, I created this custom, patriotic wreath order request for Kem. She is one of Debbee’s Buzz’s first followers, and already has several of my wreaths decorating her home. When she asked for a July 4th theme wreath, I was skeptical I’d be able to get it done between an out-of-town wedding and other commitments. Happily, the Uncle Sam wreath pedaled (via USPS) in time to decorate Kem’s Atlanta home for Memorial Weekend.

Normally, I have July 4th decorations up in time for Flag Day. But, right now my house is bedecked in Alice in Wonderland decorations for this weekend’s 4th annual My Favorite Things Party.

As you read this, my sister, college roommate and I are busily preparing for the vintage iced tea party. So, just a quick photo tour of the Uncle Sam wreath today. (more…)

Smooth Sailing Wreath Flying Red, White and Blue Colors

Smooth Sailing Wreath Flying Red, White and Blue Colors

Wishing you a happy Memorial Day Weekend with a Smooth Sailing wreath in patriotic colors.

I recently made this red, white and blue wreath for my eldest son R’s Manhattan apartment.

When I found the wood and canvas sailboat decor piece (Home Goods), I knew it would be the perfect centerpiece of a nautical theme wreath.

The patriotic color scheme would also make it a great Memorial Day through Labor Day decoration for R’s front door. Smooth Sailing all summer long!

Living in a rooftop apartment, surrounded by a terrace on three sides, R’s apartment is the gathering spot for his friends. He has it outfitted with both lounge and dining areas, a grill, mobile cooler, bar, trees and plants, strings of lights, music, and plenty of outdoor entertainment options.

Last year, for his birthday, we gave R all kinds of outdoor tableware. Many of the dishes had a nautical or coastal motif. So,  I figured a Smooth Sailing wreath would be a great welcome to the party inside — and out to the rooftop terrace.

When not making party decorations, I’ve been going a little mad with preparations.

I’ve also shared numerous posts on the party’s decorations, favors, games, prizes, and menu.

When I saw Amber of Follow the Yellow Brick Home hosting a Tea and Roses Blog Hop, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to participate. So, I went through all the stuff I’ve created, and decided to share the Alice in Wonderland theme wreath.

Fit for the Queen of Hearts herself, the Tea and Roses decorated wreath also makes a great Valentine’s Day decoration

DIY Anchors Aweigh Sailboat Wreath

DIY Anchors Aweigh Sailboat Wreath

I recently created a mesh sailboat wreath for my sister B’s home in Charleston, S.C.

Like my sister-in-law L’s Ladybug Wreath Bridges Seasons, B and her husband had moved to downsize.

B also wanted a wreath that wasn’t too big, and could decorate her front door for multiple seasons.

Additionally, B had admired and coveted a summer wreath I created that hangs at the peak of my covered porch. The grapevine wreath is dominated by an 18-inch sailboat, supported by a large circumference base. Too big for B’s front door.

Living in Charleston on the water, and married to an experienced sailor, a nautical theme was agreed to. And to coordinate with B’s new porch furniture and pillows, aqua was chosen as the accent color. So off I went, in search of the perfect ribbon and a smaller sailboat.

Ladybug Wreath For New, Existing Homes Bridges Seasons

Ladybug Wreath For New, Existing Homes Bridges Seasons

I’ve been working on a number of DIY projects lately, and decided to share a seasonal ladybug wreath made for my sister-in-law (L).

While celebrating Thanksgiving in Washington this past fall, L and her husband (M) surprised us with two pieces of exciting news.

In addition to a pending retirement, they had decided to downsize from a large home to a one-story house. The new home would still be near family and able to accommodate overnight visitors, but allow them to easily age in place.

With exceptionally nice fall weather, hubby and I were able to tour the model house, peruse color and finish selections, and see their lot. I just loved the floor plan and Northern Virginia community.

It planted a seed in the back of my mind too, and now I have a bit of a “bug” for a new house! We have lived in the same home we had built as newlyweds. And although we’ve done a lot of improvements and remodeling, it will never have an open, single story floor plan with high ceilings. But, we’ll stay right where we are, until the boys are married and settled somewhere.

Now that M and L have moved into their lovely new abode, let me share the ladybug wreath with bee skep I made for their front door.
