So far, I have created hand painted glasses for four different occasions. It all started when I wanted peacock themed tableware and favors for the second My Favorite Things Party.
Since the feather decorated wine glasses were such a crowd pleaser (everyone thought I had bought them!), I went on to paint Holly Golightly figures on champagnes for the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Theme Brunch. More recently for the Unbirthday Party, I upped the ante, painting four different Alice in Wonderland character goblets.
You don’t have to be an artist to create fun and unique hand painted glasses to grace a table or give as favors for a bridal or wedding shower. All it takes is a little patience and steady hand. Let me show you.
It’s super easy to set a St. Patrick’s Day table using my everyday, Ireland Pursuit dishes.
With a wide band of green decorating the rim, the Noritake pattern is perfect for the holiday. Medallions around the border depict foxes, pheasants and rabbits. Hunt scenes and thatched cottages also decorate the dishes and serving pieces.
I’ve been setting the table with the Ireland Pursuit pattern for breakfast, lunch and dinner for something like twenty years! To transform the setting into a St. Patrick’s Day table, required a change in linens and pulling out seasonal decor to create a festive centerpiece.
Because we are going to be out of town for the actual holiday and won’t be entertaining guests, I decided to mostly use what I already had to set the table. But, due to a lack of specialty dishes and accessories for a St. Patrick’s Day table in the stores, I did craft shamrock-decorated napkin rings and painted pilsner glasses for the holiday. Easy peasy.
Some little birdies came inside — out of the frigid winter storm — to inspire a please-come-soon spring table.

Having just returned from a nearly weeklong ski vacation in Breathtaking Breckenridge, Colorado, I initially hit a creative brick wall on setting a spring table. As we landed in Pittsburgh a snowstorm hit, which made for a dicey drive home around midnight. And, as I set the springtime tablescape, four more inches of snow was falling and temperatures dropped to a frigid 10 degrees. Burr!
While scratching my head for some spring table theme, I ‘rediscovered’ my lovely bird dishes — buried deep behind Christmas and winter plates. These cute birdies inspired a tweet table to welcome spring. Won’t you come in from the cold and join us?

Because the Unbirthday Party was held in the summertime, it was actually an iced tea party. And, rather than being held at English tea time from 3-5 PM, the luncheon began at 1 PM.
In addition to the Wonderland tea party, there were mad games (including flamingo croquet), and a My Favorite Things gift exchange. With the party going until very late in the afternoon, I spaced the three courses of food between all the various activities.
Bonjour mon amis! What could be more fabulous than to have a seat at an Eiffel Tower table on Valentine’s Day in Paris; the City of Light and Love?
I’ve been fortunate to eat dinner there twice. First, was with my husband early in our marriage. While vacationing in Paris a decade plus later, we took our then adolescent sons to dine at an Eiffel Tower table.
There are several dinning establishments inside the Eiffel Tower; including champagne and macaroon bars.
Popular with families and for its incredible view over Paris, is 58 Tour Eiffel. Legendary restaurant and triple Michelin-star, Le Jules Verne, is undergoing a facelift and will reopen in the spring. A truly magical experience in an iconic setting.
My Eiffel Tower table is in a much more modest setting — I’ve swapped Paris for Pittsburgh!
