It’s super easy to set a St. Patrick’s Day table using my everyday, Ireland Pursuit dishes.
With a wide band of green decorating the rim, the Noritake pattern is perfect for the holiday. Medallions around the border depict foxes, pheasants and rabbits. Hunt scenes and thatched cottages also decorate the dishes and serving pieces.
I’ve been setting the table with the Ireland Pursuit pattern for breakfast, lunch and dinner for something like twenty years! To transform the setting into a St. Patrick’s Day table, required a change in linens and pulling out seasonal decor to create a festive centerpiece.
Because we are going to be out of town for the actual holiday and won’t be entertaining guests, I decided to mostly use what I already had to set the table. But, due to a lack of specialty dishes and accessories for a St. Patrick’s Day table in the stores, I did craft shamrock-decorated napkin rings and painted pilsner glasses for the holiday. Easy peasy.
I imagine many are still celebrating Valentine’s Day; filling restaurants throughout the weekend or planning a special evening. In February, I move on parallel tracks, because I decorate for both Valentines and Presidents Day.
Since the two February holidays are just days apart, you’ll find a little of this, and a little of that around my house.
I’m not sure why I’m so into Presidents Day and early American History. Since I was a kid, I’ve been reading presidential and first lady biographies. I love visiting Monticello, Mount Vernon and other presidential homes, libraries and museums.
While living in Philadelphia during the Bicentennial, I became fascinated by George Washington.
Years later, I discovered a direct connection to him through my husband’s ancestor. Peacock, aka The Rebel Bird, was part of Washington’s spy network. He was also a quartermaster at Valley Forge, and at Cornwallis’ surrender in Yorktown. Read about him in, Celebrating Patriots on Independence Day.
Today, I’m sharing a few quick and easy ways I decorate for Presidents Day.
This isn’t the Valentine’s Day theme post I planned to send out last Saturday morning. It wasn’t even a subject I had on the blog calendar. But, life interruptus. Early last week, my sweet Scottie dog got very sick and required major abdominal surgery.
The good news is, that it looks like Fibber is going to be okay. We brought him home Saturday afternoon. But, it will be a long three to four week care and recovery period.
I don’t often mention Fibber, and have only shared a couple of pictures. Most followers are primarily interested in tablescapes, holiday decorations, and party posts, rather than my day-to-day musings.
And don’t we all think our kids and pets are the cutest, smartest, and most wonderful on the planet? Because, let me bee clear — mine are! I will be completely shameless when I have grandchildren. People will cross the street to avoid my bragging or being subjected to endless photos LOL!
While Valentine’s Day is primarily about romance, it’s also about the other loving and caring relationships in our lives. Today, I’m marking the occasion by celebrating my own fuzzy, funny Valentine.
Bonjour mon amis! What could be more fabulous than to have a seat at an Eiffel Tower table on Valentine’s Day in Paris; the City of Light and Love?
I’ve been fortunate to eat dinner there twice. First, was with my husband early in our marriage. While vacationing in Paris a decade plus later, we took our then adolescent sons to dine at an Eiffel Tower table.
There are several dinning establishments inside the Eiffel Tower; including champagne and macaroon bars.
Popular with families and for its incredible view over Paris, is 58 Tour Eiffel. Legendary restaurant and triple Michelin-star, Le Jules Verne, is undergoing a facelift and will reopen in the spring. A truly magical experience in an iconic setting.

A dangerous icy snow mix is headed our way; along with a high of only six degrees come Monday. Burr! So, I’m building a snowman inside my warm, cozy kitchen.

For breakfast this weekend, hubby and I will be warding off the arctic chill (blast?) with bowls of warm oatmeal and cups of peppermint-flavored coffee.
We’re suppose to be going out to dinner Saturday night as part of Pittsburgh’s Restaurant Week. Not so sure that’s going to happen, as the weather forecast is for icy driving conditions. I sure hope not, as I’ve been really looking forward to dinner at The Roost. On Tuesday night we ate at the Twisted Frenchman. Both are newer, highly rated restaurants we’ve been wanting to try. More frequent dining out is part of our new retirement lifestyle.

It feels like winter again, and the perfect occasion for a toboggan ride tablescape.
After a heavy rainstorm with strong wind gusts yesterday, the high temperature dropped 20 degrees overnight. Now, snowflakes are falling and winter has returned.
After going to gym class in the morning, I spent the entire day preparing for a grand evening out with hubby. It required reading the play synopsis and music lyrics, while listing to the soundtrack of Hamilton. Yes, thatHamilton!
Then, we left the house for a pre-theater dinner downtown, before the three-hour show. Was it absolutely fabulous and fun — yes! It’s a cultural phenomenon I hope you all get a chance to see. Have you been? If not, Hamilton is worth the cost of a Disney + subscription for virtual front row seat.
Now that old man winter has returned, I’ve spent set a seasonal, winter table to enjoy for the rest of the month. Come along on the ride!
