Today, I’m going to show you how I hand painted glasses to compliment table settings and as favors for several parties.
I was prompted by several readers who asked how to make the decorated pilsners featured in last week’s Casual St. Patrick’s Day Table & Shamrock Glasses.
So far, I have created hand painted glasses for four different occasions. It all started when I wanted peacock themed tableware and favors for the second My Favorite Things Party.
Since the feather decorated wine glasses were such a crowd pleaser (everyone thought I had bought them!), I went on to paint Holly Golightly figures on champagnes for the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Theme Brunch. More recently for the Unbirthday Party, I upped the ante, painting four different Alice in Wonderland character goblets.
You don’t have to be an artist to create fun and unique hand painted glasses to grace a table or give as favors for a bridal or wedding shower. All it takes is a little patience and steady hand. Let me show you.

As part of January’s Pinterest Challenge, I’m going to explain how a pin inspired the creation of three Alice in Wonderland character dolls as party decor.
With the arrival of the New Year, folks appear to be thinking about hosting A Valentines Day Tea Party with Friends, and events like baby and wedding showers.
During the past month, I’ve seen a large increase in Alice in Wonderland and tea party-related blog post visitors, Pinterest followers, and sales in my Etsy shop.
Sales of the Queen of Hearts Roses & Teacup Wreath and Mad Hatter figure, reminded me that I hadn’t gotten around to blogging about the Alice in Wonderland character dolls. Come see how I designed and created Alice, the Mad Hatter, and Queen of Hearts — improvising as I went.

Today’s post features 12 of my favorite ways to make merry during the holiday season.
I’ve included a range of Christmas activities; including holiday shopping, gift giving, crafting, decorating, table setting, outings and party ideas.
This year, I’m hopelessly behind! After returning from a wonderful Thanksgiving in Charleston, I discovered my website had come under attack. Eek! That necessitated taking the blog down for 12 hours, hundreds of dollars in restoration services, and the better part of the week on the phone with tech support. I’m still ironing out annoying issues here and there. Bah humbug!
After returning from my nephew’s upcoming destination wedding, I’ll be decorating four Christmas trees, setting holiday tables, putting up the Department 56 North Pole Village, sending out cards, finishing my shopping, wrapping gifts, and baking cookies. It’ll be a full court press to the sound of Christmas music.
I’m also determined to get back on track with new holiday posts. For today, I hope you’ll enjoy a look back at some of my favorites from last season.

Several years ago, I began decorating chandeliers in the kitchen and dining room for the seasons, holidays and special occasions.
Whether part of a themed tablescape or not, a decorated light fixture adds a lot of impact to a room.
It can also complement and extend a centerpiece upwards.
Or replace the centerpiece altogether; opening up space for serving pieces and a less crowded table.
Unlike centerpieces that look great in photographs, a decorated chandelier doesn’t impede conversations by blocking the view of table mates.

My favorite Halloween decorations are the ones that evoke the past and happy childhood memories. That’s why I decorate my home with Halloween costume photos of the boys, and seasonal arts and crafts projects they made way back when.
In, How to Create a Kid Keepsakes Gallery, I explain how I use a long wall in the finished basement to display arts and crafts created by my sons. I rotate the artwork seasonally, and in September swapped the pictures to back-to-school, fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving subjects.
Now that it’s October, I also bring out framed photographs of family members in Halloween costumes; placing them around house. I’ve also taken some of those Halloween costume photos and turned them into stand-up cutouts.
Let me show you a fun way to take pictures of your kids or grandchildren, and create easy DIY Halloween decorations the whole family will enjoy.
