Because of the short time between holidays, I’m busy putting Thanksgiving decor and tableware in place as fast as I can! Today I thought I’d give you a behind-the-scenes tour of how I store holiday decorations.
Fortunately, some Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations overlap for the entire fall season.
Few people I know actually have Thanksgiving-specific decor as I do. Over many years, I’ve selectively collected turkey, pilgrim and Indian figures.
Right now it looks like Halloween exploded in the guest bedroom! Ugh. It’s fun decorating, but I hate packing up.
People frequently ask where I store it all. The short answer is everywhere! I’ll do a little show and tell today, with ideas on how to organize and store holiday decorations.
Before I do that, there’s new fall and Thanksgiving decor and tableware that caught my eye.

I’ve been so busy setting tables, decorating chandeliers and creating centerpieces, I haven’t had a chance to photograph my other Halloween decorations. Today, I’m finally getting around to a Halloween decor home tour.
Other than Favorite Things Parties and tablescapes, my Halloween decorations tend to be far less over-the-top or stylized.
I do have a lot of stuff (yes honey, I know), But, many of those decorations only come out if we’re entertaining, or if my sons come home for a weekend (usually coinciding with a Steeler game).
Halloween decor tend to go in the same locations every year. It is all simply arranged; there are no elaborate displays or vignettes. If you’re expecting Instragram or magazine-worthy photography, I hope you won’t be disappointed.
Come along now on my Halloween decor home tour, where a not-so-scary group of characters — mostly witches — convene every October.

Taking you on a tour of my dining room for a haunted Halloween hallows tablescape. Things That Go Bump in the Night is part of this year’s Halloween Tablescape Blog Hop.
Today, I’m fortunate to be among 19 talented and creative stylists for the week-long spooktacular. The monthly event is hosted by Chloe of Celebrate & Decorate. This is my fourth time participating, starting with a Give Me Liberty Blue Tablescape. That was followed by Don’t Be Crabby Coastal Table and Fall on the Farm Rooster Table.
It’s such a thrill being included with many bloggers I have long admired and been inspired by. But, it’s not without its share of chills either! After seeing Monday’s creations, I’ve been feeling more than a little intimidated! I shared my jitters with the group, with thoughts of chickening out. But Chloe said, “don’t you dare!” Actually, she was quite encouraging.
So skeleton finger and toe bones crossed, welcome to my haunted Halloween hallows (cue the scary sound effects).

My favorite Halloween decorations are the ones that evoke the past and happy childhood memories. That’s why I decorate my home with Halloween costume photos of the boys, and seasonal arts and crafts projects they made way back when.
In, How to Create a Kid Keepsakes Gallery, I explain how I use a long wall in the finished basement to display arts and crafts created by my sons. I rotate the artwork seasonally, and in September swapped the pictures to back-to-school, fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving subjects.
Now that it’s October, I also bring out framed photographs of family members in Halloween costumes; placing them around house. I’ve also taken some of those Halloween costume photos and turned them into stand-up cutouts.
Let me show you a fun way to take pictures of your kids or grandchildren, and create easy DIY Halloween decorations the whole family will enjoy.
